We've been planning this event for a couple of months, researching who will be interested in attending, how to set it out, how appropriate is the venue, getting the word out there and more to the point, will anyone turn up?
It was a wet, dark morning at 6am when we set off to open up the hall, get the teas and coffee's ready and collect the pastries from Sandhurst Bakery. So as you can imagine, the thoughts of 'no one will choose to venture out in this' were running around our heads.
We had a very keen attendee, Cody, from Blue Room IT, who was there before the tea was ready but in time to sample the pastries while they were warm, supporting us and giving positive and encouraging words.
7am, on the dot, and the doors opened and a stream of people flowed in, it was great to see! They kept coming in the next half hour and soon the room was buzzing.
The event was opened by Tara, welcoming everyone and a brief insight to how 'Yateley Networking' was born. This was followed by Karen giving an overview of what 'Yateley Industries', the charity that supports people with disabilities, is all about and how businesses can support this charity and in turn, how Yateley Industries can support local businesses too. This was accompanied by a slide show that was put together by Dani, Abstract's current Work Experience placement, who is on the Work Choice Programme at Yateley Industries.
On the close of the introductions we opened into a relaxed networking session for everyone to integrate and speak further to anyone that they felt they could offer something to or receive a service from.
In total we had 30 people attending our first Networking event and on departure there as plenty of positive feedback which bodes well for the future of 'Yateley Networking'.
Remember Remember the 5th November! Next Yateley networking event, see you there.
